Who's behind it
My name is Giacomo Guerrini. I moved from Italy to Ireland for work, and when my partner and I started looking into what having a baby here involves, I had no family nearby to ask which form came first or what the deadline was.
Finding the information was not the hard part. Citizens Information, the HSE and gov.ie all publish it, and it is good. The hard part is that the sites which summarise it disagree with each other. In August 2026 I checked seven Irish pages quoting the weekly maternity rate. Four had the wrong figure. One of them built a full worked example on a rate that was €25 a week out of date, which is about €650 across a full maternity leave.
My background is in reporting and analytics, so my reaction to a wrong number is probably not a normal one. This site is built so a figure cannot be published unless it matches a record carrying its official source and the date it was last checked. When those two disagree, the site refuses to build. That is why every guide shows a "facts checked" date, and why it is a real one.
